Nigerian foreign minister visits Equatorial Guinea over attack

According to the News Agency of Nigeria reports on Friday, the minister said his country has pledged to confront criminal elements that plan to disturb the stability of the African continent.
Maduekwe delivered a special message of solidarity from President Umaru Yar’Adua to his counterpart in Equatorial Guinea, noting that the President also condemned the recent attack on the presidential palace in Equatorial Guinea by some gunmen.

Security forces in Equatorial Guinea repelled an attack on the Presidential Palace on February 17.
Government officials in Equatorial Guinea had blamed the attack on militants from the Niger Delta. The Nigerian government has since denied this.
A source close to the meeting in Malabo quoted Maduekwe as saying that the attack had compelled the two countries to collaborate to forestall a recurrence.
The source also added that the minister assured his host that Nigeria would continue to extend hands of solidarity and understanding to the people of Equatorial Guinea.
It added that the security of Equatorial Guinea and that of Nigeria are inseparable.
